Trends that came full circle

2/17/2020

It's pretty fair to say that fashion always comes full circle. I hear more customers come into Pretty Little Things and say "Oh, I shoud've kept my bell bottoms from high school!" Because those jeans, that are now considered "mom jeans" are exactly what is in trend right now. Some may wonder why trends seem to come full circle but really, is there a beginning or end to fashion?

Bell Bottom jeans

Flare jeans were super popular during the 60's and 70's. This trend came into play when high waisted jeans made there way back into the fashion world and the skinny high waisted top was balanced out from the big bottom flare. Speaking of high waisted jeans, the "mom" jean also made a come back as a cute way to style crop tops.

Scrunchies

Scrunchies became popular in the 80's and various colors, styles and prints have been designed on them ever since. While they went away for a little while, as of recent years the hair contraption has gained popularity once again. Its stretchy fabric makes for casual wear and because of the different material that it can be made from, it's perfect to also add a little flare to any kind of occasion outfit.

Platform Shoes

Flashback to the 70's when platform shoes came into play. Disco's, Spice Girls, it's your call on what made these accessories popular but, these funky pieces could sometimes be higher than you could comfortably walk in, yet somehow always fashionable. The platform can be worn on sandals, sneakers, boots, you name it. However, while this trend came back I don't think it is as dramatic and tall as it used to be.

Bodysuits

In the 70's bodysuits used to be worn more for athletic activities but now they can be worn for almost anything. Whether it be going out or being comfortable paired with some joggers, some find this one piece suit to be the most comfortable thing. It's easy to tuck in your shirt with a bodysuit. Only difference with these now, is you probably wont see anyone wearing a bodysuit at the gym.

Tie Dye

Tie dye was an obvious trend of the 70's and recently it's made a comeback. The vibrant colors and various patterns are so on trend this spring and featured on the most popular clothing item, a comfy oversized sweatshirt and joggers.

I thought I’d start with this topic first because like I said, I live for clothes that I can dress up or down. I believe that everyone needs at least one of  these pieces in their closet because they have endless uses and are the most simplistic things to shop for. Knowing where to start with your outfits will allow you to be cute and casual or completely fashion forward whether that’s running errands or heading out to date night.

Plain white tops

Its true, a plain white top does everything you need and more to an outfit. Make it totally casual with your favorite pair of blue jeans or toss on some fun accessories for some chic wear. There are endless opportunities with plain white tops, which is why it’s at the top of the list! Take advantage of them.

Neutral pair of shoes

Having that one go-to neutral pair of shoes is so essential. Knowing that you have shoes that you can slip on with any outfit is in my opinion, is a stress reliever, especially on those hectic mornings. Plus, it’s one less thing to worry about when picking out an outfit. (& yes! I do believe leopard is a neutral. Pair it with black jeans and a white top and you're dressed to the nines)

Allow me to introduce myself...

Hello pretties!

Welcome to the first blog post presented to you by PLT intern/sales associate Cassie.

You're probably wondering what this section of the website is all about and I'm here to tell you just that. Every Wednesday morning I'll be posting about the latest in fashion, what's currently trending/events or anything readers want to know.

I'm a senior at the University of New Hampshire studying Text, Business, and Design while also interning/working part-time at Pretty Little Things. I've worked at Pretty Little Things for about exactly a year now and I'm in love with all things fashion and the quaint community of downtown Portsmouth. Through my experience at PLT I've learned the in's and out's of working for a small business, from the amazing boutique owner Michelle. This internship entails many aspects that I have a high interest in and one day hope to pursue a career in. From blog post, website design,
photoshoots, events and more, how can a girl not be excited?!

My goal of these blog post is to show people what having confidence in their own personal style can do for them. I always preach to not be afraid to be yourself and I believe through fashion, anyone can accomplish just that. Anyone can develop their own personal style by just finding their niche and what works for them. For me, I am inspired within fashion by the seasons latest trends and how I can put together an outfit to be dressed up and down. The more ways you can style your clothing, the better! Through my internship with PLT I hope to share with you, my personal niche and inspire others to find theirs too. I’m so excited to share with a new community what I can contribute to the world of fashion. Please feel free to leave your positive thoughts and contributions on my blog post!

Xo, Cassie
